MEDIUM: Contemporary mosaics

Light, color, reflection

A mosaic artist for 20 years, I began in mixed media mosaic with a focus on garden art, using mainly ceramic and found objects. Indiana has a long history in glass, and over time my “mosaic direction” shifted to include original fine art glass mosaic.

What I enjoy about mosaics is the process of seeing in my mind all the pieces and parts, the colors and textures, the shapes and movement, and bringing this mosaic of ideas together as art. And then, of course …It makes me happy.

One of my goals is for my mosaics to express the fun I have in creating them. I call many of my works ‘Fun Art.’ I love to re-purpose and re-cycle, creating original conceptual works with discarded vintage objects… and add a touch of whimsy.

My style is heavily influenced by travel in the U.S. and abroad, and I find particular inspiration in the brightly colored mosaics of Antonio Gaudi of Barcelona, Spain.

To hone my artistic and mosaic technique, I trained at the Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland, California; and I also have studied with renowned mosaic artists, including Laurel True and Isaiah Zagar. My self-study includes work with tradesmen and professional tile installers where I gained technical expertise.

I work in my Carmel, Indiana studio and have created countless mosaic pieces, including public works of art and architectural residential installations.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My mind bursts with colors and textures, pieces and parts, shapes and movement. Bringing this mosaic of ideas together in my art brings me tranquility.
I work in contemporary mosaic art for the joy and the happiness it brings me. The process of creating a whole from the pieces continues to gratify and delight me.
There are no hard fast rules in contemporary mosaic art. I am free to color outside the lines and create with unlimited substrates and a myriad of tesserae and mediums… glass, mirror, stone, ceramic, china, found objects, old jewelry.
The meaning of my art is simple:  to impart joy. I want people to be drawn to the colors, the textures, the reflections of light ...and perhaps smile.

MEDIUM: Oil & acrylic paintings

While receiving her bachelor's degree from Purdue's Krannert School of Management, Kim took an Art and Design class every semester as a creative outlet and to foster her love of the arts. She has always loved drawing and being creative and has fond memories of painting on little rocks from Lake Michigan. She had been drawn to impressionism paintings growing up, but did not begin oil painting until her oldest son left for college, as her own "art therapy." Her working career has included positions in marketing and ownership of a design/remodeling company along with her husband. Now that her three children are all getting closer to leaving the nest, Kim is attempting to make painting a bigger part of her life. She has studied at the Art Studio of Carmel under Penny Roberson, and has also been a student of artists Pam Newell and Rita Spalding, all whose work she greatly admires. Kim is thrilled to be a part of the Art on Main gallery in downtown Carmel. ***Why paint? Kim's goal is to help spread a bit of beauty into our everyday busy lives.

MEDIUM: Acrylic Paintings

Barbara Gregory has a Bachelors Degree in Art Education from Wittenberg university.  She taught grades 1 through 12 for several years.

Recently, she studied with Carol Skinner, Magdalena Segovia and Susan Mauck.  She has a studio in downtown Carmel.

I find that acrylics offer many opportunities for layering for the expression of color, design and texture.  Color has always been an important part of my life.  Hopefully the joy I find in bringing life through color in my paintings will be enjoyed and found meaningful to those who see it and live with it.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

After exploring watercolor, ceramics and realistic oil paintings I found abstract painting in acrylics a joyful experience. Abstracts can find a place to express one’s feelings and moods or just make a statement in your home.

I find that acrylics enable many opportunities for layering for the expression of color, design and texture. Color has always been an important part of my life. Hopefully the joy I find in bringing life through color in my paintings will be enjoyed and found meaningful to those who see it and live with it.

Harden Gallery

MEDIUM: Oil Paintings

An American artist, with a passion for painting, Randall Scott Harden dedicates his being to creating art - it is his lifestyle. He sees the world through an artist's eyes - as patterns of color, shapes, and light. His strength lies in his ability to effortlessly create a timeless style with an essence of romance. Whether having a glass of wine in Paris, or hiking in Tuscany, Randall is continually looking for that perfect balance of subject, atmosphere and hue...those things, combined with years of experience, which allow his brush to flow freely in expression of the moment.

At an early age, Randall felt the need to use art as a tool to interpret the world, as he knew it. With a gift of natural ability, he was tutored by local talent and continued to study throughout his life in workshops, museums, studios, and "en plein air" alongside his award-winning peers. Today, he has a successful career bringing his vision to others through his paintings.

MEDIUM: Fine Art Photography

Photography has always interested me; maybe that explains why I became a radiologist!

As I approached retiring from this work role, I became more enthralled by the opportunities to photograph the world around me-both while satisfying my love for travel and being back home.

My involvement with nature photography was further stimulated by taking several workshops in the American Far West. I’ve become increasingly fascinated by water and reflections, where the worlds of reality and dreams collide.

Passionate support for the performing arts is vitally important to me. I am privileged to photograph Dance Kaleidoscope, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and other performing companies.

Selected exhibitions in Indianapolis include Clowes Memorial Hall, the Hilbert Circle Theater and Kuaba Gallery.  Elsewhere, I have shown in Austin, Texas and Akko in northern Israel. Communicating my love for photography has been made possible by being an Artist-in-Residence at Park Tudor School in Indianapolis.

My works have been obtained for private collections in New York City, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, Wisconsin, Colorado and British Columbia.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

What I choose to photograph has always been based on instinct. I shoot whatever moves me…whatever catches my eye. The essential act is seeing; seeing and reacting with excitement. Photography is a critical means by which I express my feelings. Without it, my life would- quite simply - be incomplete.

Her work has been published in Photoshop User magazine, Welcome to Hamilton County 2011 (cover), Indianapolis Monthly magazine and the Carmel Arts & Design District Website.

Marie's most recent work  has focused on architectural and cityscape images, using High Dynamic Range Photography (HDR) to maximize the dynamic range of a scene, then tone mapping and stylizing that image, which allows for the artist's creative expression. The artist prints her images using Epson Stylus Photo printers (9900 and 4900) which utilize archival pigment inks to produce archival prints which will last over 200 years. Images are printed on Epson Exhibition Canvas Matte or Epson Velvet Fine Art paper which offers a unique museum quality feel. All canvas prints are protected with two coats of archival certified premium canvas varnish which will protect the image from fading. All images are captured using either a Canon 5D Mark IV or a Canon 5D Mark III Digital SLR.

Debbie Slack

MEDIUM: Oil paintings

Debbie, a graduate of Indiana university, wife and mother of three, has had a lifelong appreciation of art. In 2009, she enrolled in a local art class and hasn't stopped painting. She continues to study and grow as an artist and has participated in numerous local and regional art fairs and galleries. She also has a passion for service and often uses her art to help others.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I choose to see beauty, light and color in the world. This is what drives me to paint...whether it is a field of flowers, a simple pear or a bustling city street, I'm always striving to capture those elusive qualities of color and light as well as the beauty in the everyday. I believe an artist paints what is in their soul and whether I'm working on a colorful abstract, or a traditional still life, I hope the passion and joy that I find in the process makes its way to the viewer.
